Is there a performance difference between old metal trigger assemblies for Ruger 10/22 and the newer plastic trigger assemblies? Second question: Can you use all internal parts fron new plastic trigger to older metal trigger housing? If you want the best possible trigger job without spending the money for a Jard or other custom trigger group, the metal trigger housing is going to give you the best and longest .
I have both an aluminum and polymer trigger guard equipped 10/22; I can't find any functional difference between them while shooting. I can say that I prefer the aluminum trigger . "We have found that our KIDD "trigger job" kit made to drop into a Ruger 10/22 guard works better in an OEM Ruger Polymer unit than an older metal unit due to the hole . Not every Aluminum TG housing is great. but most will provide a good trigger with good parts. Power Custom offers a very good hammer/sear that will give a really nice pull. . The housing and internal parts are the same except the hammer's sear notch and the sear are polished for a lighter trigger pull. This assumes both trigger groups are current .
The BX Trigger for the 10/22 from Ruger is a solid trigger upgrade for the money and an overall good value. It may have a polymer construction, but it also only requires drop-in installation, greatly shortens the overall trigger pull . We got four of the most popular drop-in triggers and trigger kits to test their feel, pull weight, and shooting split times. By the end you’ll know which 10/22 trigger upgrade is the best for you and your budget.
Volquartsen Custom. Volquartsen Custom comes to market with enough high-performance accessories to build an entire 10/22 from scratch. Their TG2000 trigger guard is CNC-machined from solid billet aircraft-grade .In 2007 (to the best of my knowledge) Ruger changed a forty-three year tradition and began producing their Ruger 10/22 trigger groups in plastic rather than aluminium. Gun people are traditionalists, as a rule, and there were cries of outrage that their beloved rifle was going plastic. On the 10/22, I'm thinking Ruger builds most models to the mass market, as I said, with some higher-end models and higher-end features for those who want a step up, and with full knowledge that while there ARE buyers who're happy to spend another 0 in stocks, barrels, trigger assemblies & so on, most won't and there's not enough return on . If you are looking for a replacement metal trigger blade that fits into the stock polymer trigger assembly there are many options. As was mentioned you can send it off the Brimstone Gunsmithing for either their Tier 2 or Tier 1 trigger jobs, either of which will replace the stock trigger with and alloy one.
10/22 Trigger Housing. . That video shows the difference between an old type trigger group (aluminum housing) versus a new type with a polymer housing. If you have a 10/22 made in 2012 or after, the parts in a BX and a factory trigger group are the same. . Ruger Forum. 2.9M posts 112.3K members Since 2006 A forum community dedicated to . BTW the TG is contained mostly in the firearm so dropping a weight on it means diddly.wont happen in real life. I had a 10/22 drop off an ATV in North Bay Ont, when it was minus 28 and the trigger guard on the polymer TG snapped off like a cracker. So the polymer has its limits too, especially in the cold.
However, if you are changing that many parts, why buy a Ruger to start with. Some folks like the new bolt and the plastic trigger housing. They aren't my preference, if I had a choice. That is why, when I find a NOS, older 10/22 for a decent price, I buy it. I've heard that the current 10/22's have a polymer trigger housing, but the older ones are made of aluminum alloy, so I'm not sure that's a big difference. I know some folks are death on "plastic" guns but, in my experience (which includes a Remington Nylon 66), the plastic holds up just as well as steel; better, in some cases. The metal housings had some slight variation in the pin locations, and I can verify that the two kits I installed in metal housings had shallow engagement issues, necessitating filing the rear wall of the hammer behind the sear shelf to increase the engagement depth from .010" to .014" Once this was done the trigger was reliable and still maintained that precise break the .

I built a heavy barrel 10-22 a little over a year ago, with the help of Randy from Precision Chambering. Among the works he did was a trigger job on my original 1976 trigger group (metal, of course). All of his work is outstanding, but the trigger came back with a 3.5+ pound trigger pull. I shot the 10-22 during one outing and put it away.

Dedicated to America's favorite rifle, and Ruger's most popular firearm, the venerable 10/22. I have just done the Kidd trigger kit on my 10/22 with the polymer trigger housing. I know from doing 10/22's back in the day that the metal housings were all over the place on tolerances. With that said, I have a spare polymer housing and after installing the Kidd trigger kit in the first housing, I took it back out and installed it in the .
Now have a two year old Deluxe Sporter. I don't see any difference in the function, not much in the looks. What's exposed of the trigger group has a little thicker contour. Ruger has a video on their website showing how strong the polymer is, compared to the old aluminum. That satisfied me that it is likely an improvement, in the 10/22's case. Just wondering if anybody knows where a person could find a Silver color Trigger Guard for a Ruger 10/22? The firearm is as reliable and, because the color is incorporated into the polymer of the injection molded . Whether or not the issue is plactic vs. metal housing, I don't .
If I may ask, what year did Ruger transition to polymer parts? I have been looking at the 10/22 as a first rifle, and I'd prefer a carbine or compact model with blued barrel and non-polymer trigger housing + buttplate. From what I understand, somewhat older models sport an aluminum buttplate + trigger housing and hold a higher quality finish. And thats why Ruger switched to the Polymer housings, they can produce those in house cheaper and way more consistently tolerance wise vs. the cast metal housings. As for the internals, they could be aftermarket but the older cast triggers were also generally had a lighter trigger pull. The trigger shoe doesnt look aftermarket though.
Still, shooters, myself included, wanted to know why Ruger went from aluminum to polymer on the 10/22 trigger housing, so I asked. Ruger can do an aluminum trigger housing or a polymer one for about the same cost per unit. However, the aluminum parts are not consistent, so a whole rack of different small parts had to be stocked to accommodate .
I have had Brimstone Gunsmithing do trigger jobs on two Ruger 10/22 trigger groups over the past year. Both were from rifles of recent manufacture with polymer trigger housings. I am very happy with both of them. The least expensive, Tier 3 trigger job cost just under which included the two way shipping charge.
