I have just finished building a metal building home. It is a standard bolt up building that is framed out completely on the inside. It is insulated with spray foam in the framed walls 11" thick from the sheet metal to the inside surface of the studs, the ceiling is 24" of blown fiberglass. Has anyone ordered a metal building kit, and GC’d your own build? I found a place that builds engineered kits for what’s essentially a barndominium shell and I’m seriously considering ordering it. I'd like to build a metal shop/garage on my lot prior to an expensive home. But I got to thinking, maybe there is a better way if I just build them all as one building, metal, and finish the home portion later? My lot is not flat. I have 250' width and 600' deep. 160' in from the road, the property begins to slope and by 180' the slope is a hill. My idea is to put down a Frost Protected Shallow Trench slab foundation, build the steel carport on it, then finish the inside as a regular house. I’d attach wood 2×4’s to the vertical steel studs.
As you go from the front to back of the building, theres more stone. Yes it is a fully enclosed 'carport' aka garage. The wetness on the inside perimeter started even with the light rains but obviously became much worse with the 3 inches of rain in a 2-3 day time. I am looking to insulate a metal building and I don't know where to begin. I'm willing to try most anything but most of my hesitancy lies in my fear of condensation. The metal building is 90' x 55' x 18' (ceiling height).
