Then I discovered the back up lights weren't working. The ford tech says the smart junction box needs to be replace and my battery is bad. It needs a new SJB or smart junction box which is in the passenger kick panel. I have a 2006 Ford Escape XLT 4WD, 2.3L 4 cylinder, automatic transmission. High parasitic (no key) battery current drain. 240mA all the time. The problem is battery dies when car isn’t used in more than a week. Not a problem if driven every day. I measure battery current and found parasitic drain current to be 240mA or 0.24A of constant draw.
However, I don't know of a way to lock the back hatch door so anyone can still gain access by going in through the back door. Since all the locks are doing/not doing the same thing I don't believe the problem is with an individual lock.
