http://www.neo7cnc.comI discuss why I used 80/20 as the structure of my machine. I also cover some tips when using 80/20 or other extrusions. The 80/20 1530 & 3030 extrusion (1 1/2" x 3" & 3" x 3") is from the 80/20 Garage sale on Ebay. 8020inc I'll be using my Porter Cable 690 router motor for the spindle. For a general idea of what it will look like see this build: glacialwandererSlotted aluminum extrusion, commonly from a company called 80/20, is used on many DIY CNC router design plans available on the internet. It offers many design options due to the large amount on mounting brackets and configurations the slotted design allows. I wanted a heavier and stiffer machine than the typical 80/20 kit. So, nearly the whole machine is constructed of 3030 (3”x3”) profiles. They are the thickest/heaviest version.

I planned on making it (almost) entirely from metal, and mostly using 80/20 components. 80/20 is billed as the industrial "Erector Set", because you can build almost anything from the standardized parts just by bolting them together. This guide can and will assist you in building your own CNC machine.
